An email
to a friend about my first year at university
Dear Leti,
How are you? I couldn’t write to you before because I’ve been very
busy. I’m writing to tell you about my experience at college. As I told you in
my last letter, I always wanted to be a teacher.
Well, I started the infant education degree course three years ago
and since my first year I’ve been learning many interesting things about
children.
I’ve just finished the theoretical part of this year and now, I’m
doing the practices in Can Canto, which is a kindergarten for children from 0
to 3.
I’m happy to say that I also see that things we have learnt in
theory during these years can be carried out in practice.
I’m sorry to say, that I won’t be able to visit you because now I’ve
got a lot of work. If you want, you could come to Ibiza in summer because, by
that time, I’ll have finished my exams.
What about you?
I’d better go now as I’ve got to work in a few minutes!
I’m looking forward to seeing you!
Best wishes,
Úrsula
Traditional methodologies are still better tan modern methodologies.
Discuss
In the 21st century there is a discussion about the best
type of education. Nowadays it has changed from a traditional methodology to a
modern methodology.
On the one hand, traditional methodology comes down to the formal
aspects of curriculum, without focusing on communicative aspects of education.
For example, children in a traditional class have less opportunities to
interact with their classmates or their teacher. If teachers do not work
curriculum content adapted to the reality of their students, they will not
achieve a meaningful learning.
On the other hand, modern methodologies help children to learn by
playing. In addition, this way of learning gives more importance to children.
They have to investigate and find information. For instance, if students do not
know the meaning of a word they could look it up online.
In conclusion, I think that if we want to engage children and
instill curiosity to learn, we have to adapt our methodology to the reality of
the moment. The question is, are teachers able to use the new resources to
change their methodology?
